Metadata is generally information about your data, when it comes to html,we have meta tags (<meta>)

We can have meta datas for HTML as below :

<meta name="description" content="Free Web tutorials">
<meta name="keywords" content="HTML,CSS,XML,JavaScript">
<meta name="author" content="Hege Refsnes">

Keyword meta tag and google :

From September 2009 ,google has stopped evaluating tag "keywords" from web pages since they can be easily abused and search engines can be fooled,say like you have a website with keywords "computers,rajus tutorial"  , any other user can also use the same keywords for their website also ,then it would be a cause of concern for original author.

But at the same time you can use following :

<meta name="description" content="A description of the page" />

If you ask whether to have meta tags same in every page then i would say , "No"

Try to add unique descriptions in each page or leave to google to create based on page snippets

Note :

  • Search engines don’t use meta descriptions as a ranking factor.
  • The best meta description length is between 150 and 160 characters.
  • If a page has no description, search engines will return a snippet base on the content of the specific page, relevant to the search query.

Check your meta tag :
