The word composite denotes , it is made of several elements together.

As the name suggests these are materials which are made up of two or more constituent materials with different properties.

Composite materials have high durability and combined properties of constituent materials.

You would get a clear cut idea with example below :

One of the most prominent and widely used material : Concrete , a best example of composite material composed aggregates laid on cement matrix.

Other composite materials include :

  • Plywood
  • Carbon fibers applications :
  1. Bicycle frames,
  2. Hang glider components,
  3. Stand up paddle (SUP) shafts and blades,
  4. Kayaks, Rowing shafts, and paddles

Advantages of using composite materials in water sports :

  • Composites have durable flex properties and can withstand moisture without rusting,
  • making them the material of choice for nautical applications, such as boating and other water sports.

The physical and chemical properties of each of the constituent materials remain distinct in the new material. These constituent materials work synergistically to produce a composite material that has improved properties when compared with the individual constituent materials.

  • It consists of fine glass fibres woven into a cloth then bonded together with a plastic or resin.
  • The glass makes the material strong, and the plastic makes it more or less flexible.
  • Fibreglass is used for making surfboards, swimming pools and spas, boat hulls and a wide variety of exterior automobile parts.

composite material is a material made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties that, when combined, produce a material with characteristics different from the individual components. The individual components remain separate and distinct within the finished structure, differentiating composites from mixtures and solid solutions.

The new material may be preferred for many reasons: common examples include materials which are stronger, lighter, or less expensive when compared to traditional materials.
