  • Empty the Trash: Right-click on the Trash can in the Dock and choose Empty Trash. Get rid of all your old unwanted files. Depending on how frequently you do this, the Trash can usually free up a lot of space.
  • Drag to the trash some large files. A good place to start is with any movie files that you no longer want to watch.
  • Trash unused applications. Programs can sometimes take up more space than you’d like on a Mac, so drag some unwanted programs to the Trash to get rid of them. A program like App Zapper 2 is well worth keeping around if you want to find out how much space programs are taking up on your Mac.
