The imbalances between electrical and mechanical power may make the frequency to change. However due to large machine inertia, AC systems are stable even in the aforementioned condition. In DC systems, to overcome this issue, the mechanical power applied to the generator rotor must follow load changes. Else, the energy storage must compensate for the difference. This situation is often found in DC microgrids. How is this situation taken care of in DC microgrids? (For better understanding, a sample layout of a microgrid is given below).
