Is that possible to measure surface area of a nano particle ? What device is used for that ?

YES, The BET (Brunner-Emmet-Teller) method is the most common one for measuring surface area of nanomaterials...

Stephen Brunauer, P.H. Emmet and Edward Teller developed BET theory in 1938.

Method:

The BET method is based on adsorption of gas molecules on surface. The amount of gas adsorbed at the given pressure allows to determine the surface area.

Find more about BET theory here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BET_theory

Application:

1.Medical Implants

2.Filters

3.Cements

We have graphical representation for calculations on surface area from these devices(BET instruments).

could you explain that method in some simple way?
How can amount of gas adsorbs give us surface area ? ..thank you for your explanation..
